John Jackson Actor, Real Estate Mogul, Casting Director. This is just a glimpse of John Jackson's hat rack. His advice is to be happy in your skin, and that's what he's tried to do throughout his career. He was lured to Hollywood as an actor, and while he landed several roles, he still paid the bills with a day gig as a casting Director. He spent seven years at an LA agency before realizing that he could not live in LA - at least not all the time. He decided to buy a house (the first of many) in Council Bluffs, IA and return to the motherland. "It's more fun back there!" he claims while addressing November's Hollywood Salon. "I love this work, but I will only work when it is convenient and pleasant - I won't knock on doors." Why should he after successfully casting all of Nebraska Director Alexander Payne's films, continuing to pursue his own acting career in Hollywood and conducting his own Real Estate business in the Midwest. Jackson tries to match the role to the person - often picking people off the street who match his criteria. It to avoid the "LA Gloss - the sheen that every LA actor has." He's selected housewives at the market, students in high schools, security guards - even a couple farmers at the Dewdrop Inn in Loveland Iowa. His biggest fear is not that they won't perform - it's that they won't show up! In the Midwest slopping the hogs or buying groceries for the family could take a front seat to a starring role in a motion picture! Jackson pointed out that working with Payne gives him the leeway he needs to be a good and cutting edge casting director. How about a little advice for the up and coming Hollywood star? Jackson says be relaxed, know your lines no matter what, and look them in the eye. You have to relax and enjoy what you are doing, only then will your character come across. But most of all "Be happy in your own skin!"
