He was a true Coast Connection pioneer--as Lincoln movie critic and Variety's first Nebraska correspondent way back in 1936. Some 60+ years of adventures have followed: as WWII's first paratrooper newsman and founder of the Berlin Press Club, press agent for Warner Bros & stars like Errol Flynn and Liz Taylor, lifelong friend with (and one-liner writer for) Ronald Reagan, mentor to a young boxer named George Foreman. Barney's worked in 81 countries on all continents, witnessed history in the making and rubbed elbows with generals, movie stars and presidents. And through it all, he's never forgotten his roots... the hundreds of scholarships he and his wife have endowed at the University of Nebraska have helped thousands of young people follow their dreams.  Barney Oldfield was the guest of honor at the Nebraska Coast Connection Hollywood Salon, October 11, 1999 at CBS Television City, Hollywood, California.
